Our second step in getting healthy, losing weight program is to go on a juice fast. Juice fasting is the quickest way to heal the body, get healthy and lose excess weight.
A juice fast should be done for at least three days. Ideally a fast is done for 1-2 wks or even longer in persons who have severe illnesses. During a fast, you have several juices a day along with a lot of water. Our bodies get the chance to feast on tons of phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals while giving our digestive system a break the combination of all of this life giving nutrients while letting our body rest allows the body to slough off a lot of built up toxicity and creates the perfect storm for healing.
After a juice fast, juicing should become part of a healthy lifestyle, having several juices a week, and doing a 2-3 juice fast a year for three days to 2 weeks.
If you are committed to a healthy lifestyle, then you will want to invest in a quality juicer. I have had several because I kept upgrading. The Omega Vert is what I have now, and I love it because it juices hard vegetables, wheat grass as well as fruits and it is an augmenter juicer meaning that it leaves more nutrients in the juice as well as gives a very fine juice, with very little if any pulp. It is easy to clean, and easy to put together and is very quiet while running and it has a small footprint and looks good sitting on my counter. My first juicer was Breville and I love Breville products the juicer did a great job of juicing but it wouldn't do wheat grass, the juice coming out of it didn't have as many nutrients as the Omega and it was so big that I wouldn't leave it out on my counter top, so it didn't get used near as much, other than that it was a fantastic first juicer.
There are tons of juice recipes, but it is important especially on the fast to make sure that you have more vegetables than fruit. The fruit, is just added in to make the juice more palatable. If you do too much fruit then it is too much sugar for your body and not near as beneficial.
My go to juice is a mean green. This recipe below yields about 32 oz and on a juice fast you would have 3 of these juices a day.
1 bunch of kale
4 stalks of celery
2 green apples
1 piece of ginger the size of your thumb
You can play with the recipe but every juice should have a base of cucumber, celery, lemon, and either kale or spinach and you can change out the fruit - pineapple, beets, grapefruit etc. You can also add in some carrots just make sure that you keep in plenty of vegetables.
If you can't get a juicer then another alternative is Organifi. Please understand that this isn't near as good as a fresh made juice but it is the next best thing.
